Tejashwi Yadav Political Career History

Tejashwi Yadav political career.webp

Since 2012, Tejashwi Yadav had been seen participating in election campaigns alongside his father. However, his formal political launch took place during the Parivartan Rally held in May 2013. In view of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Lalu Prasad Yadav organized a massive rally at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan, where, for the first time, he brought both his sons—Tej Pratap and Tejashwi—onto the political stage. By the time of the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections, Tejashwi had taken full charge of the RJD’s campaign.

In the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections, Tejashwi Yadav contested for the first time from the Raghopur constituency at the age of 26. He won the election and was seen as a contender for the Chief Minister’s post. However, Nitish Kumar was the leader of the alliance, of which the RJD was also a part. As a result, after the alliance secured victory, Nitish Kumar became the Chief Minister, while Tejashwi Yadav was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister.

In 2019's general elections, Tejashwi Yadav took full charge of his party’s campaign. He was also the star campaigner for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

During the election season, Tejashwi held series of high-energy rallies, where he frequently targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over issues such as unemployment and demonetisation.

Tejashwi Yadav proved his political mettle in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections when he single-handedly led the RJD’s campaign and secured victory on 75 seats for the party. In comparison, the BJP won 74 seats, while Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) managed to win only 43 seats.

Political controversy and cases

After the beginning of his political career, Tejashwi Yadav faced allegations of money laundering. The case was reportedly linked to a land-for-deal transaction that took place during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as the Railway Minister. In 2017, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) interrogated Tejashwi for nine hours in connection with the case.

This case led Nitish Kumar to pull the Janata Dal (United) out of the alliance and form a new government in partnership with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) thus proving to be a setback for Tejashwi Yadav's political career as he was then Deputy CM in Bihar.

Tejashwi Yadav NetWorth

According to the affidavit submitted during the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, Tejashwi Yadav declared movable assets worth ₹4.73 crore (₹4,73,20,061). In addition, he owns immovable assets valued at ₹1.15 crore (₹1,15,70,000). Tejashwi also possesses 100 grams of gold jewelry and has investments in the stock market.
