In Rajasthan politics, Ashok Gehlot is a significant figure. He's been the chief minister of the state three times and a union minister three times as well. People call him the "Magician of politics" because he's very experienced and wise in political matters.

He's been close to both Rajiv and Indira Gandhi, which makes him one of the most trusted leaders in the Gandhi family. It's said that Ashok Gehlot is deeply influenced by Gandhiji's ideas.

He had his primary education in Jodhpur, where he got a master's degree in economics and a bachelor's degree in science and law. He enjoys traveling and doing magic tricks.

Ashok Gehlot Family

On November 27, 1977, Ashok Gehlot got married to Sunita Gehlot. They have two kids. Their daughter lives in Mumbai, and their son, Vaibhav, is into politics.

Ashok Gehlot Political Career

After meeting former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1971 while serving at refugee camps in East Bengal, Ashok Gehlot entered politics. Impressed by his organizational skills, Indira Gandhi introduced him to politics and appointed him as the first state president of NSUI Rajasthan.

Gehlot has since had a successful political career, serving as Chief Minister of Rajasthan three times and as a Union Minister thrice. He's the first person to achieve three terms as Chief Minister in Rajasthan's history. Gehlot has been active in politics and community work since his student days. Although he faced defeat in his first assembly election in 1977, he's known for his clean image in Indian politics.


Ashok Gehlot Political History

After winning in Jodhpur Lok Sabha seat, he ran in his first assembly election in 1977. He went to Delhi for the first time in 1980. He was chosen as an MP for Jodhpur in the 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Lok Sabha elections in 1984, 1991, 1996, and 1998. He also represented Sardarpura seat in the Rajasthan assembly for six terms from 1999 to 2023. He served as Rajasthan's chief minister three times in 1998, 2008, and 2018.


1974- Became the President of Rajasthan NSUI.

1979- Became President of the District Congress Committee, Jodhpur.

1980- Became a member of the Public Accounts Committee.

1982- Became Union Deputy Minister, Tourism Department.

1982- Became General Secretary of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee.

1983- Became Union Deputy Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Department.

1984- Became Union Deputy Minister of the Sports Department.

1984- Became Union Minister of State for Tourism and Civil Aviation Department.

1985, 1994, 1997- Became President of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee.

1989- Became Minister (Home Department and PHED).

1991- Became Union Minister of State for Textiles Department.

1998- Became advisor to Communications (Lok Sabha).

1998 to 2003- Became the Chief Minister of Rajasthan for the first time.

2008 to 2013- Became the Chief Minister of Rajasthan for the second time.

2017- Became General Secretary of All India Congress Committee.

2018 to 2023- Became the Chief Minister of Rajasthan for the third time.


Ashok Gehlot as Chief Minister


Ashok Gehlot did a lot of projects to help poor people. He focused on helping poor people get better lives. That's why folks in the state chose him as their leader three times. As Chief Minister, he's known for handling tough situations like droughts, power generation, creating jobs, and managing public funds wisely.

In his first term, he dealt with a big famine but managed it well. He also came up with a saying for the state, "Save water, save electricity, and educate everyone." During his third term, he made sure everyone in the state could get free healthcare when they needed it.


Ashok Gehlot Achievements


Ashok Gehlot was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Jodhpur in 1980 and later became a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Sardarpura in 1998. He continued as an MLA from Sardarpura in 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013, 2018, and 2023. He also served as an MP from Jodhpur in several terms.

Gehlot has been Rajasthan's chief minister three times - from 1998 to 2003, 2008 to 2013, and 2018 to 2023. He's been both an MLA and MP five times each. Additionally, he founded Bharat Seva Sansthan, an organization that aims to provide free books through the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Book Bank and ambulance services.

Ashok Gehlot has assets worth Rs. 6.63 crore.
