Chirag Paswan himself contested from the Jamui constituency and defeated RJD’s Sudhanshu Shekhar Bhaskar by a margin of 85,000 votes. At the age of 32, he began a new chapter in his career as a Member of Parliament.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Chirag Paswan contested once again from the Jamui constituency. He secured victory by defeating Bhudeo Choudhary, thereby becoming a Member of Parliament for the second time.
Notably Jamui holds historical significance for Paswan, as his father represented it eight times since his first victory in 1977.
But in 2024 general elections, he contested from Ram Vilas Paswan's traditional seat Hajipur, may be to give the message that he was the real heir to the political legacy of his father and not his chacha Pashupati Nath Paras amidst family feud and won the seat.
He is currently serving as the union minister in the PM Narendra Modi led NDA government & his supporters have been demanding that he should step into state politics ahead of Bihar elections which is sending the message that if NDA wins in the assembly election, Paswan may too be in the race to become CM of Bihar.

After the death of Ram Vilas Paswan in 2020, a major split occurred in the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) in June 2021. Five of the party’s six MPs—Pashupati Kumar Paras, Chaudhary Mehboob Ali Kaiser, Veena Devi, Chandan Singh, and Prince Raj—joined hands to remove Chirag Paswan, the party's national president, from all key positions. They chose Chirag’s uncle, Pashupati Kumar Paras, as their new leader and also appointed him as the party's national president and the leader of its parliamentary group.
With only six MPs in the party, Chirag found himself isolated. Even the BJP distanced itself from him. On July 7, 2021, Pashupati Kumar Paras was appointed as a Union Minister, while Chirag was sidelined both at the central and state levels.
