Bhajan Lal Sharma, a first-time MLA from Sanganer, has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan by the Bharatiya Janata Party, putting an end to all speculations.

The 56-year-old emerged victorious in the Rajasthan assembly elections, securing the Sanganer seat by defeating Congress candidate Pushpendra Bhardwaj with a margin of 48,081 votes. Sharma, who has a long-standing association with the saffron camp, has served as the state general secretary for the BJP four times.

Notably, Bhajan Lal Sharma has strong ties with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the right-wing student union Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Hailing from the Brahmin community in Bharatpur, Sharma's nomination for the position of Chief Minister was announced by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who mentioned that it was recommended by former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. During the Rajasthan BJP's legislature party meeting, Vasundhara Raje proposed Bhajan Lal Sharma as the leader of the legislative party, a decision that was unanimously accepted. Expressing his gratitude, the Chief Minister-designate thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Vasundhara Raje for proposing his name. In a press conference held in Jaipur, Bhajan Lal Sharma also acknowledged the party's decision to replace sitting MLA Ashok Lahoti with him for the Rajasthan assembly elections. Despite maintaining a low profile, his election affidavit revealed that Sharma is a post-graduate with declared assets amounting to Rs. 1.5 crore, including movable assets worth Rs. 43.6 lakh and immovable assets worth Rs. 1 crore.
