The year 2025 will once again see electoral battle and the political water will be tested this year. Delhi goes to poll earlier this year while Bihar is expected to vote by Nov- Dec this year. While in Delhi, INDIA bloc is in tatters and the fight will be basically between AAP & BJP, in Bihar, the fight for supremacy will be between NDA & Mahagathbandhan.

Delhi Assembly election

The campaign of AAP is getting down to the wire as the time when the election will be announced, comes near. party is leaving no stone unturned in announcing cash transfer schemes as poll promise. It has announced Mahila samman yojana under which it claims that women over the age of 18 who are eligible will receive a monthly assistance of Rs 1,000.

The funds will be distributed after the state elections. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had announced that the stipend will eventually be raised to Rs 2,100. However, this scheme has run into controversy after the Delhi government distanced itself from the scheme. Congress leaders too have made compliant against AAP.

But undeterred by this, AAP further announced Pujari- Granthi samman yojana under which AAP has promised monthly honorarium of Rs 18,000 for all temple priests and gurdwara granthis in Delhi if AAP returns to power. BJP has targeted party supremo Arvind Kejriwal over this scheme.

The party has announced tickets and its leaders are on the ground canvassing for the party. BJP is giving a tough challenge to the party which has been facing anti-incumbency of being in power since 2013.

In last assembly elections in Delhi, AAP had won 62 seats out of 70 while BJP won just 8 seats. Congress was not able to register any win in the assembly election.

However, this time, after a lot of humming & hawing, Congress will be fighting the election on its own strength. The party fought the Haryana elections along without getting into an alliance with AAP. Similarly in Delhi, party is ready to make an effort to reclaim its lost fort and has fielded Sandeep Dikshit against Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, BJP has stepped up its attack on Kejriwal and AAP but is yet to announce its candidates. The party got a shot in the arm during the LS polls when it was able to win all the 7 LS seats of Delhi.

The contest between AAP & BJP will be interesting to watch this year, will Congress be able to reclaim its lost pride and prestige in this Delhi election will also be a topic of interest.

Bihar Assembly election

Much water has flown under the bridge in Bihar since the last election in 2020. That election was fought between NDA by JD ( United) & Mahagathbandhan led by RJD. Out of total seats of 243, NDA led by Nitish Kumar won 125 seats while Mahagathbandhan missed the bus narrowly and won 110 seats. Before the results came in Tejashwi Yadav was speculated to becomes the CM once RJD led alliance wins but ultimately NDA formed the government.

Then Nitish Kumar did a flip –flop and switched sides. In August 2022 , he went with the Mahagathbandhan and remained the CM. Tejashwi Yadav was appointed as the CM. Things were smooth but once again in Jan 2024, Nitish Kumar made a U- turn and rejoined NDA with the promise of never to leave it again.

All eyes are on the main faces of both the alliances as state is all set to go to polls later this year. Meanwhile poll strategist Prashant Kishor too has jumped into the fray and formed his political party- Jan Suraaj Party. Though his party contested by election on 4 seats held in November 2024, the candidates lost badly.

Therefore as the year 2025 will unfold, the political landscape in both Delhi and Bihar is set for intense battles.

In Delhi, the contest between AAP and BJP will be pivotal, with AAP's bold promises and BJP's sharp attacks making for a high-energy campaign.

Meanwhile, in Bihar, the political drama continues with Nitish Kumar’s shifting alliances, setting the stage for a fierce rivalry between the NDA and Mahagathbandhan. The role of Congress and the rise of new players like Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party will add further unpredictability.
