Throughout history, kings, dynasties, and colonial powers have fought for the throne of Delhi. This time, the key players in the fray are the opposition parties – BJP and Congress, while the defending party is AAP. While the contest between AAP and BJP is well-known, the growing conflict between AAP and Congress is now making headlines.
After the Delhi government distanced itself from the scheme, the Delhi Youth Congress filed a complaint against Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of misleading the public by making false claims about non-existent schemes. This complaint was filed after AAP launched a large-scale public outreach initiative to enroll people for the "Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana."
In fact, the Delhi government issued advertisements in newspapers stating that no such schemes as "Mahila Samman" and "Sanjeevani" exist in the state. The first advertisement, released by the Department of Women and Child Development, addressed the "Mahila Samman Yojana" and clarified that the Delhi government has not issued any such notification.
What is the scheme? The "Mahila Samman Yojana" promises to provide ₹1000 every month to all women aged 18 and above. After the elections, the amount will be increased to ₹2100.
The second advertisement, issued by the Delhi Health and Family Welfare Department, addressed the "Sanjeevani Yojana" and stated that the government is not running any such scheme. It also advised people not to share their personal information in the name of creating cards.
As if this wasn’t enough, to add fuel to the fire, Congress leader and treasurer Ajay Maken launched a scathing attack on Kejriwal. While releasing a White Paper against the AAP government and the BJP-led Union government, Maken said that Congress's decision to support AAP in 2013 led to the party’s decline in Delhi. He criticized AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, pointing out that his party came to power by capitalizing on the Janlokpal movement, yet failed to establish the promised anti-corruption ombudsman, among other allegations.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced that it will urge the parties in the INDIA bloc to expel Congress from the coalition if the party fails to take action against its Delhi leader, Ajay Maken.
AAP launched fierce criticism of Congress, accusing it of conspiring with the BJP ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections to undermine the prospects of Arvind Kejriwal's party. During a press conference, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena Singh and AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh claimed that Congress's actions were sabotaging the unity of the INDIA bloc.
It’s worth remembering that it was in 2013 that Congress was ousted from the Delhi government by AAP during its first election campaign.
In 2013, AAP, which had fought a bitter battle against Congress, secured 28 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly. BJP emerged as the single largest party with 32 seats, while Congress was reduced to just 7 seats. The party, which had been in power for three consecutive terms, was decimated as voters embraced Kejriwal's fresh ideas and new style of politics. However, Kejriwal fell short of a majority, and Congress, despite its crushing defeat, made a political decision with lasting repercussions. It decided to support AAP. Since then, AAP has only grown stronger at Congress' expense, as many political analysts claim.
