The man who is credited with bringing the mega-successful event of PM Modi’s ‘chai pe charcha’ and turning social media into a weapon for the election campaign has come a long way from a political strategist to the founder of a political party in Bihar.
After making election strategies for Modi, Nitish Kumar, Trinamool Congress, and even for congress CM Capt Amarinder Singh who made him his principal advisor, Prashant Kishor, famously known as PK has now decided to use his strategies for himself and has launched his party – Jan Suraaj Party.
Unlike several regional parties of the country including RJD of Bihar which are family-run, former IFS officer Manoj Bharti has been made the President of the party. Bharti has been an ambassador to 4 countries in the past is IIT Delhi pass out.
In the whole ecology of thousands of party in the country where there are generations of families running many parties or depended on charisma of a single leader, or being backed by any organisation, Jan Suraaj party has some uncanny similarities with AAP which had stormed the political sphere of the country few years ago.
PK is known for his digital campaigns and the website of the party is a testament to that. One can get plethora of information from the website which gives a clear picture of his policies and idea of taking Bihar politics forward.
But there is a big question, armed with data, digital mediums will the issues raised by him strike a chord with the political environment of Bihar where caste politics rules the roost? All the arithmetic of Bihar politics is in the permutation combination of MY ( Muslim – Yadav) translated in Hindi as Mai ( mother) signifying that cast politics is the mother of Bihar politics.
Recently, PK claimed that for the past 30 years, the politics in the state has revolved around only 1,200-1,250 families with MLAs and MPs repeatedly emerging from these groups. According to him, all these families are related to either BJP, JD(U) or RJD.
He perhaps believes that the common people of Bihar are fed up with all this and are looking at a change for the sake of the future of their children. He has therefore given the slogan-
‘Bihar ne kar li taiyari, apne bachchon ki hai bari’ which has become quite popular among the people of the state.
Like a master strategist he has been projecting it as a contest between himself and others in a way of a new order challenging the previous ones for their follies & vices and for the current situation of Bihar.
In terms of marketing, He has those 4 Ps - product, price, place, and promotion , basically his marketing mix. Intially, as a political strategist, he just had Promotion but than he figured out Place- Bihar, Price – his vision and now has a product - Jan Suraaj Party. Infact his party is a perfect example of a well thought strategy of converting a public movement into a party.
He is hopeful that he will be able to disrupt the current political space and create a niche for himself in the state which has not seen rise of a significant new leader other than the family of already established leaders in the state with some exceptions.
Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan had led a mass movement in the country which eventually led to formation of Janta Party, Arvind Kejriwal and his ilk led a movement along with Anna Hazare and Kejriwal crafted his own party from that. PK started his own movement through padyatra and has now converted into a political party.
But will his startup succeed ? Can Pk achieve the success which AK ( Arvind Kejriwal) achieved first in Delhi and then in Punjab where his party formed the government, only the people of Bihar know answer to this. As of now he is capturing the imagination of political analysists and youngsters in a similar manner AAP had attracted the professionals and youth in its earlier years.
