In a sweeping victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has dominated the Haryana Municipal Corporation Elections, securing 9 out of 10 mayoral positions. This overwhelming win further strengthens BJP’s political footprint in the state, particulary in urban centers of the state signaling a major setback for the opposition Congress party.

Results another feather in the hat of CM Nayab Saini

The results are an impetus to the BJP government in the state and another feather in the hat of CM Nayab Saini’s leadership. Winning 9 out of 10 mayoral seats in no mean achievement for the party .

The Congress party failed to secure a single mayoral seat in any of the 10 municipal corporations, marking a stark contrast to BJP’s performance. This loss is yet another blow to Congress after their defeat in the Haryana Assembly elections held in October 2024, where BJP formed the government.

The party’s inability to perform in these crucial municipal elections only reinforces the perception that Congress is struggling to regain its lost political ground in the state amidst heavy infighting among its rank and file.

Even in the stronghold of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the Congress suffered a humiliating defeat. Rohtak, once considered a bastion of the Congress party, was swept by BJP, with the opposition failing to secure a victory in this key area. Similarly, in Sirsa, a district represented by Congress MP Kumari Selja, BJP clinched the chairmanship of the municipal council, highlighting the growing discontent with Congress at the grassroots level.

In another significant blow to Congress, BJP’s Dr. Sanjay Jangra emerged victorious in the municipal election for the chairmanship of Julana, a constituency represented by wrestler turned politician Congress legislator Vinesh Phogat. This defeat adds to the series of losses for Congress in the region, further undermining the party’s credibility and strength.

As the BJP consolidates its position across the state, Congress finds itself in a state of disarray.

What’s ailing Congress ?

Nearly four months after the assembly elections, the party is still struggling with internal conflicts and has failed to appoint a leader of the opposition. This lack of leadership and organizational coherence is becoming increasingly evident in the wake of these electoral losses.

The results of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Elections serve as a wake-up call for Congress. With BJP continuing to make significant strides in the state, Congress must quickly address its leadership vacuum and internal divisions if it hopes to recover and challenge the BJP’s dominance in future elections.
