Priyanka Gandhi Political Career

She is currently General Secretary of Congress party which has fielded her from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency. This is electoral debut but she has been active in politics for last 35 years or so when at the age of 17 she campaigned for her late father Rajiv Gandhi in 1989 general elections.

She has been quite active in helping her mother Sonia Gandhi and brother Rahul Gandhi in their election campaigns respectively from Rae Bareilly & Amethi in past. A regular to these constituency, she is said to have good connect with the party workers at the ground level.

She was formally given a position as late as 2019 when she was appointed as General Secretary of AICC for Uttar Pradesh (East) where the fortunes of the party had been dwindling and party had almost touched its nadir.

This will be her first election as a candidate as she forays into electoral politics now.

After being given the responsibility of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, She left no stone unturned to revive the fortunes of the party. Though her efforts fails to stem the debilitating state of the party in the state, her political moves caught the fancy of the people.

She launched ‘ Ladki hoon lad sakti hoon’ campaign for the party in Uttar Pradesh with focus on women empowerment during the assembly elections in the state. Though the party couldn’t take the advantage of this drive but this campaign highlighted Gandhi’s appeal & her charisma among the women in the state. The slogan has become synonymous with her.

Fluent orator

Priyanka Gandhi’s is one of the most sought after campaigner for her party as she speaks chaste Hindi.

There was an interesting incident in Bengaluru during the last lok sabha elections when Priyanka was addressing the crowd in a public meeting in fluent Hindi. A young girl was translating her speech. At a point the girl stopped and the people were not able to understand her words. At that time Priyanka called the girl near her and smilingly offered her mike to her so that her voice could reach the audience. The incident became the spotlight of her address.

‘Pili Lugdi’ was offered to her during Rajasthan assembly election in 2023 in Dausa – Pili lugdi is quite popular in Eastern Rajasthan and during her campaign in dausa, she was presented with this. The speciality of this cloth was that the symbol of congress party was printed on the border of this chunri.

Wildlife enthusiast

She is known for her love for wildlife and is a regular visitor to Rajasthan’s Ranthambore tiger safari. She had celebrated her 50th birthday in Ranthambore and had gone on tiger safari accompanied by her family on this occasion.

Low profile but a solid rock behind husband Vadra

During the days when Rober Vadra who faces many legal cases and controversies related to land deals was being summoned by agencies, Priyanka Gandhi was seen besides him, accompanying him to ED office.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Controversy

There are two FIRs registered against her.

There is an FIR registered against her in Gautam Buddha Nagar, UP with relation to an alleged protest against the infamous Hathras incident of 2020.

An FIR was lodged in Indore, MP against her on a complaint made by one Nimesh Pathak complaining about allegedly misleading tweet.

She courted a controversy in 2019 when during campaign in Rae Bareilly, she met with 2 snake charmers & had held the snake. A video was made of this and when cautioned by people, she had said that it wont do anything. She was criticized for this act and complaints were made against her. However later she received clean chit by department of wildlife.

Priyanka Gandhi Net worth

Total value of her assets is Rs 12 crore as per her election affidavit. Her total income for financial year 2023-24 was Rs 46.39 lakhs. Her source of income is rental income, income from investments & other income. She has a agriculture land in Mehrauli which she owns it with Rahul Gandhi. She also a residential building in Shimla. Her car Honda CRV is 2004 make and was gifted to her by husband Robert Vadra.

Her husband Robert Vadra has commercial properties in Haryana and has movable assets of about Rs 37.9 crore while the value of immovable assets is over27.64 crore.
